First off, I got a letter from my sister. She was recently involved in
a battle in 0.0 space and lost her ship! She said she managed to flee
in her escape pod, but the ship went down in flames. I don't know what
she was thinking flying so close to a battleship! She knows that stasis
webifiers will catch her but she always was a bit arrogant. Probably
trying to show off to her corporation. Well, she's alive and safe,
which I'm very glad for.
As for me today, I tried to upgrade the new Crane. Master decided to
call it "Logan's Run", I don't get the reference myself but he assures
me it's funny. These "gamers" have a strange sense of humour.
It all started when I tried to fit a new expanded cargo hold. The ship
was flying fine before but as soon as my work crews installed the cargo
hold, one of the capacitors blew a fuse. Short circuited the entire
ventral section of the ship! I couldn't believe it! I have cargo that
needs delivering and my ship isn't moving!
Well, I fired my chief engineer. Always has been a bit useless. I
decided to give the repairs a go myself. How hard could it be? Well,
let me tell you, it's not easy removing the Plastiflux covers from the
circuit boards. I know that Kaalakiota tech is proprietary and that
they make it as difficult as possible to make upgrades yourself - so you
take it to their ship yards where they can charge you 50,000 credits
simply for stepping inside the hull - but this was ridiculous. We had
to use a thermo-torch to get through it in the end.
That wasn't the worst of it. Oh no - Once the Plastiflux cover was off,
the plasma circuits looked to be clipped to the bulkheads. Without
looking properly, I cut them away, rupturing one of them. Ever had 25k
Kelvin gas near you? HOT!
Sickbay used some nanopaste on my arm so that's "better" now, although
it's a bit sore. We've sealed the circuits and finally got it up and
running. Hopefully tonight I'll be able to transfer the cargo to my
associate. We'll see. To be honest, not much else can go wrong today!
I'll be glad to get this cargo out of the way. Master seemed to think it
was quite urgent that the delivery was made on time. I'm not sure what
it is exactly that we're transporting, but he authorised me to spend a
lot of ISK outfitting the ships. It must be quite valuable. Mind you,
I suppose it's a long term investment - you only need to pay for a ship
and fittings once (if you're lucky). Once this trip is out of the way,
Master wants me to start looking at learning some new skills.
Navigation, specifically. I don't know why - that's my sister's job,
going fast and all.
